Celebrating 20 years of building the sustainable energy future

The global energy transition has entered a new phase. Renewable energy is no longer a niche solution but an increasingly important driver of economic development, energy security, competitiveness, and resilience. Yet progress remains uneven, with decisions on energy, transport, industry, buildings, agriculture, and finance still too often made separately, slowing broader transformation.

For more than two decades, REN21 has helped address these gaps through trusted data, policy engagement, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. By bringing together governments, industry, civil society, research institutions, and international organisations, the network has helped make renewable energy a central part of development, climate, and economic discussions while connecting actors and sectors that were often working separately.
