Africa’s Renewable Energy Momentum: Where does it stand post-COP27?
Date: Wednesday 14 December 2022
Time: 14:00 – 15:30 Central Africa Time (12:00 – 13:30 GMT)
COP27 advanced on some topics but left others trailing behind, and there was no real progress on renewables. Many African leaders departed the COP intent on advancing their own energy development strategies, with little regard for a sustainable energy transition. While the agreement on Loss and Damage Fund is a victory for climate-vulnerable developing countries, the role of renewables to support mitigation and adaptation activities to reduce climate vulnerability has largely been ignored.
- What do the COP27 outcomes mean for renewables?
- How can renewables support climate change adaptation and resilience?
Ultimately, we need to build more momentum for renewables in Africa now! Join us in this edition of the RENdez-vous Africa for the conversation on what this means, and for the launch of the Energise Africa #RenewablesPathways Campaign.
Please register for the event here. The discussion will be in English and French.
What is RENdez-vous Africa?
REN21 hosts these events to inspire and to offer opportunities to learn and share across sectors. While each event is unique, one thing remains consistent: at every RENdez-vous there is time to meet and network with people from the greater renewables community, inclusive of many different sectors.
