Be a part of what-will-be REN21’s first regional status report for the Asian continent. This report will map the current range of renewable energy development across the region; showcasing these to decision makers, global investors and potential promoters of renewables. Asia is Earth’s largest and most populous continent. It covers an area equivalent to approximately 30% of Earth’s total land area and is home to around 60% of the world’s population. Understanding the uptake of renewables and energy efficiency across this vast region is central to the global energy transformation. We are looking for contributors to share insights about renewable energy developments in Asian countries, across sub-regions, relevant technology and activities. There are many ways to participate: contributing data, acting as a peer reviewer, being interviewed, etc., depending on your expertise! Click here if you are interested. REN21 has joined forces with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia-Pacific (UNESCAP) to produce this regional report.
CO2 emissions from transport are still rising. If immediate action is not taken, more radical measures will be unavoidable in the future. This is the top line conclusion from the newly released joint report by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), REN21 and the Berlin-based think-tank Agora Verkehrswende. Titled Towards Decarbonising Transport – A 2018 Stocktake on Sectoral Ambition in the G20, this new report provides a summary for each G20 nation, including data on CO2 emission trends in the national transport sector, climate policy targets and measures for lowering emissions. The data make clear that only three countries from the G20 have set targets for reducing emissions in the transport sector: Germany, France and Japan.

The REN21 Team is growing! Since April we have added three new teams members. With this expanded team, REN21 is working hard to help speed up the energy transformation. Vibhushree Hamirwasia (Vibhu for short) is our new community manager. She is responsible for managing the REN21 Community. We want to further build on this broad and engaged community to increase both individual and collective action on the energy transition. Duncan Gibb is part of the Renewables Global Status Report team and brings his expertise on the heating sector. Lea Ranalder is developing the Renewables in Cities report: an important undertaking given the central role of cities in driving renewable energy uptake. We need 5 minutes of your time! IRENA with REN21 and GWNet are undertaking a global survey on gender and renewable energy. The objective of the survey is to gather quantitative and qualitative insights on the current status of women’s participation in the renewable energy sector, existing challenges and potential solutions to improve gender diversity. Data will be used in the forthcoming Women in Renewable Energy report (IRENA). The findings from the survey will contribute to addressing the data and knowledge gap on gender in renewable energy, and inform policy making to ensure that the energy transition is inclusive and benefits from a wider pool of talent. REN21 has a begun its data collection process for the Renewables 2019 Global Status Report. Be a part of the team that produces the industry standard on the status of renewables! The 2019 report’s feature chapter will address renewable energy in cities. If you have not done so already, you can join this process by completing a short Expression of Interest form.
