Following the European Renewable Energy Policy Conference, the Steering
Committee convened in the Renewable Energy House in Brussels.
The participants discussed the continuation of ‘traditional’ REN21 work
plan tasks, such as the Global Status Report and the International
Action Programme, but also envisaged new activities to advance renewable
energy policy-making in the future.

The Renewable Energy House in Brussels: venue of the meeting
In this regard, REN21 congratulated and offered its support to the US
State Department for its initiative to organise a major international
renewable energy conference in Washington in 2008. The Steering
Committee also backed ongoing efforts that aim to ensure that renewables
remain on the agenda at the highest level on a permanent basis after the
current UN CSD14-15 cycle.
The participants further discussed how REN21 could catalyse the
scaling-up of renewables by providing an active forum where needs and
opportunities meet. Policy support and capacity-building are needed –
especially in African countries – if renewables are to prosper.
