The Ninth Steering Committee Meeting took place in New Delhi and was
hosted by the India Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
The
Steering Committee discussed the current activities and the Strategy and
Work Programme 2009-2011. There was a consensus that REN21 should
proactively position its information and policy work in order to support
an ambitious expansion of renewables. A strengthened Secretariat, Bureau
and Steering Committee would help to achieve its strategic goals. The
message for renewables will be backed by targeted analytical work to
dispel long-held myths about renewable energy costs and highlight the
values of renewable energy and its multiple benefits. Cooperation
between IRENA and REN21 was also discussed, with both institutions
recognising the opportunity for mutual benefit. The Steering Committee
also discussed the upcoming Delhi International Renewable
Energy Conference (DIREC) 2010 with the Indian Government. REN21 would support
the Indian Government in
setting the themes and other substantive parts of the conference
organisation.
