Web Communications and Information Manager
REN21 is seeking a motivated, team-oriented and creative individual to support its information and communication efforts in its Secretariat in Paris.
REN21 is a global policy network that provides a forum for international leadership on renewable energy. Its goal is to bolster policy development for the rapid expansion of renewable energies in developing and industrialised economies.

Open to a wide variety of dedicated stakeholders, REN21 connects governments, international institutions, non-governmental organisations, industry associations, and other partnerships and initiatives.

REN21 is supported by a Secretariat. The REN21 Secretariat has been operating since 2006 and is located in the offices of the UNEP Division of Technology, Industry and Economics in Paris, France.
Position Overview
The web communications and information manager will support the Secretariat in effectively communicating and collaborating with the wide array of Network partners in the public and private sector and civil society. The web communications and information manager will work under the guidance of the Paris-based Secretariat team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Website development (in cooperation with the website programmer):
  • Content management of the REN21 website, incl. general articles, virtual library, event calendar, International Action Programmes, newsletters, Global Status Report wiki platform...
  • Conceptual thinking on presentation and design of the website
  • Conceptual thinking on website tools and systems, including multimedia, wiki software, log-in-area, intranet...

Contact management:
  • Manage communication with governments, businesses, NGOs participating in the ‘International Action Programmes' and other issue groups facilitated by REN21
  • Maintain extensive contact database of the Secretariat
  • Manage information requests to the Secretariat and coordinate responses

Information management for the ‘reegle Information Gateway’ (in cooperation with the reegle-team in Vienna):
  • Help coordinate renewable energy knowledge input to ‘reegle’ (www.reegle.info), e.g. by linking ‘knowledge partner’ institutions such as the International Energy Agency, the World Bank, UNIDO…
  • Help improve the overall concept, presentation, usability of ‘reegle’
  • Help improve the 'intelligence' of the system (intelligent search function, category-search)
  • Help keep reegle's actors’ catalogue and news feeds up to date
Skills, Experience, and Attributes
  • Academic: University degree (social/economic sciences, engineering, media…)
  • Good general knowledge in international politics and economics (‘culture générale’)
  • Advanced computer skills and software aptitude: the candidate will use Microsoft Frontpage software, know very basic html, and use wiki-systems. These skills are needed to coordinate effectively with the website programmer and provide ideas on presentation and multimedia that can be realised.
  • Languages: Very good command of English, verbal and written, Knowledge of German and French would be an asset.
  • Experience: The candidate will have some proven experience in this type of work.
  • Attributes: The candidate will have an eye for detail and design, be diligent and thorough, responsive and good at maintaining contacts, and enjoy working in a flexible team and international environment.

The position is based in Paris. The contract runs initially until end of 2008 with option for extension. The successful candidate will be employed as a consultant by GTZ GmbH, Germany.
