- Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energies and Policies for a Sustainable Energy
Future
Moderator: Dr Rajendra Pachauri
Chairman of the IPCC
Participants:
- Mr Claude Mandil (Executive Director; International Energy
Agency)
- Mr Sigmar Gabriel (Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature

A round table on the main findings of the 'Alternative Policy
Scenario' of the World Energy Outlook 2006, including:
- more efficient production and use of energy contributes most of
the potential decrease in emissions of carbon dioxide;
- additional savings come from increased reliance on renewable
energy sources for power and heat production and on biofuels for
transport;
- the financial savings resulting from implementing these policies
far exceed the initial extra investment cost for consumers;
- the anticipated massive expansion of the energy sector in
developing countries offers the most cost-effective emission
reduction potentials.
Each participant will deliver a short statement and take questions
from the audience. The round table will be followed by a reception.
