REN21’s article in the latest UN Chronicle indicates that even in the presence of growing energy use, the global emissions from energy consumption has remained stable, due in large part to the increased presence of renewable energy. Behind this increased presence was a parallel increase in renewable energy targets and support policies as well as energy efficiency measures and targets. Addressing renewable energy and energy efficiency simultaneously generates positive synergistic effects.
The article also highlights the importance of increasing sustained and determined efforts towards a global transition to renewable energy for both industrialized and developing nations.
