Martin Schöpe has been working since 2003 in the field of energy policy. Until 2013, he focussed on international renewable energy cooperation, working for the Federal Environment Ministry. He was engaged in the international conference renewables 2004 and its various follow up tracks. For the Ministry he led the German initiative to establish the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
Since 2014 he moved to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and continues to work on international energy policy, including the energy agenda during the German G7/G20 presidencies in 2015 and 2017. He is Chair of the Renewable Energy Working Party of the IEA. Martin Schöpe studied law at the University of Bonn. He holds a PhD in European law.
