Lessons Learnt and Outlook
The IAP and its follow up provide an example of an international programme of non-binding voluntary committments, from which lessons can be drawn for similar schemes to be carried out in the future - related to renewable energy or other policy areas.

Therefore, REN21 has organised a Workshop on the Impacts of the International Renewable Energy Policy Process in Paris in December 2006. The invited experts from different world regions gave their assessment on the effects of the Bonn renewables 2004 Conference in general and of the International Action Programme in particular.

The presentations given by the experts paint a diverse picture of the renewable energy policy developments since 2004 in their respective countries and regions. The regional influence of the IAP and the Conference itself were discussed.

From this workshop and from the experience in working on the IAP and the follow up, recommendations for international commitment schemes have been drawn which may serve as a reference for future programmes and conferences.
