The EU-Russia Energy and Climate Conference takes place in Moscow on 29 June 2017.

The conference aims to:

• Provide an open discussion on energy transition and climate change trends and issues between representatives of EU and Russian authorities, expert and business communities.
• Focus both on the global developments and the possible impacts of these trends on the Russian energy sector and national economy.
• Assess technical, resource saving and environmental potential and cost benefits of the energy policy, focused on energy transition, in Russia.
• Analyse technological, structural and policy challenges, barriers and opportunities.

The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) and the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation are hosting the CEEW Shakti Renewable Energy Dialogue, being held in partnership with the International Solar Alliance and REN21. 

About the Dialogue

India has displayed global leadership in the promotion of renewable energy, aiming to expand its renewable energy capacity at a record pace, and to a record level of 175 GW by 2022. The past year has seen a number of highs for the sector in India – record-low tariffs, introduction of auction-based bidding for wind projects, increased investment flows into the sector, etc. At the same time, renewable energy sources continue to cement their role in the energy mix of countries around the world. The dialogue will discuss both the growing role of renewable energy in the global energy mix, and the growing role of India in further advancing renewable energy deployment.

REN21’s Renewables 2017 Global Status Report (GSR) will be presented at the Colombian Renewable Energy Conference.

The Latin American Association of Mining and Energy (ALAME), will hold the Colombian Renewable Energies Conference on June 15 and 16 in Cartagena.

Among the academic agenda will be the presence of the Researcher Gonzalo Bravo, representing the Bariloche Foundation, who will analyze the report on the GSR.

The report  presents the progress and trends towards the end of 2016, as well as the trends observed at the beginning of 2017, wherever possible. This annual report was first published in 2005 and presents the most complete and up-to-date picture on the state of recent developments and trends in the global renewable energy, industry, investment and policy development markets. Because of its design, it does not provide an analysis or forecast but rather seeks to make key information available to stakeholders in this sector. The data provided is based on an international network of more than 800 collaborators, researchers and authors.

Gonzalo Bravo will give a regional imprint to this Report, regarding the need to accelerate the development of each of the countries in Latin America and of course the global development of the Region, discussing what role renewable energy can play in this development .

Despite comprising over 300 million inhabitants and representing 4.9% of the world’s GDP, 17 UNECE countries in South and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia had only 0.2% or USD 0.4 billion of global renewable energy investment in 2015.

This year’s edition reveals a global energy transition well underway with record new additions on installed renewable energy capacity, rapidly falling costs, and the decoupling of economic growth and energy-related carbon dioxide emissions for the third year running.
