The IEA Medium-Term Renewable Energy Market Report 2014 has been launched

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has launched its Medium-Term Renewable Energy Market Report via a webinar/teleconference on Thursday, 28 August 2014 at 11:00 AM (Paris time).
The IEA Medium-Term Renewable Energy Market Report 2014 assesses market trends for renewables in the electricity, transport and heat sectors, identifying drivers and challenges to deployment, and making projections through 2020. The report presents for the first time an investment outlook for renewable power capacity, in addition to projections for renewable electricity technologies, a global biofuels supply forecast and extended analysis of final energy use of renewables for heat.

South Africa International Renewable Energy Conference (SAIREC) date set

The Government of South Africa has officially announced that the next International Renewable Energy Conference in South Africa (SAIREC) will take place from 4-7 October 2015.
Dedicated exclusively to the renewable energy sector, IREC is a high-level political conference series hosted by a national government every two years and convened by REN21. Each IREC acts as a common platform for government, private sector and civil society leaders to jointly address the goal of advancing renewable energy and has provided the impetuses for several momentous initiatives over the past decade. | more information
REN21 Renewables Global Status Report 2014 Review Round I

The first draft of the REN21 Renewables 2014 Global Status Report is now available for review. Join the growing community of GSR contributors and reviewers by providing inputs on the advancements made in 2013 in the fields of Renewable Energy Policy and Distributed Renewable Energy in Developing Countries. Please note, all review comments must be made online via REN21+ before January 26.
REN21 at COP19

In parallel with its 14th Steering Committee meeting, REN21 participated in two COP 19 side events in Warsaw, Poland, both events hosted by REN21 members. The REN Alliance event looked at the integration of technologies to achieve a 100% renewable society. “Achieving ecodevelopment through smart energy planning” was hosted by HELIO International. Here REN21 presented on the need for reliable information to make good decisions. Questions from the audience at both events illustrated the collective frustration at the slow integration of renewables into the energy mix. | more information

Call for tender – ECOWAS Renewable Energy Status Report

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is one of the most active regions in Africa for the promotion of renewables and energy efficiency. The region’s considerable renewable energy resources are central in helping meet current and projected demand. Renewable energy also presents an opportunity for the region to achieve a globally important position in the renewable energy market, which is likely to become the cornerstone of a low-carbon green economy of the future.
To facilitate the uptake of renewables in the region, REN21 and ECOWAS ECREEE have joined together to produce an ECOWAS Renewable Energy Status Report. The following call is for authoring the ECOWAS Status Report and Executive Summary. The Terms of Reference are available here.

IRENA releases IOREC Key Findings

IRENA co-organised the International Off-grid Renewable Energy Conference (IOREC) along with the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), in Accra, Ghana, on 1-2 November 2012. This report presents the key findings and recommendations that emerged from the roundtable discussions during IOREC.

RECP Mini-Grid Workshop to be held in Tanzania

The Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) is organising a Mini-Grid workshop in Arusha, Tanzania on 5 September 2013. This workshop is an initiative of the Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP), incollaboration with The Africa Electrification Initiative (AEI), the Rural Energy Agency (REA) Tanzania, the World Bank, and the European Union Energy Initiative - Partnership Dialogue Facility (EUEI PDF).
Release of the Renewables 2013 Global Status Report

The Renewables 2013 Global Status Report provides unparalleled information on renewable energy markets, industries and policy frameworks. The report showcases an impressive increase in global capacity across all renewable energy sectors, with supporting policies spreading simultaneously; Of the 138 countries with renewables targets or policies in place, two-thirds are in the developing world. Investment in renewable energy significantly increased in developing countries in 2012 while globally it decreased due to reduced technology costs and policy instability in some industrialised countries. In 2012, an estimated 5.7 million people worldwide worked directly or indirectly in the renewable energy sector.
The 180 page report covers recent developments, current status and key trends. Over 500 contributors participated in this year’s process, making the GSR 2013 a truly international and collaborative effort.
